Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Specs and First drive review

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its new product the. S-Cross by the first week of August.
Maruti calls the car Premium crossover.

Exterior:
S-Cross will compete with the likes of Renault Duster and the soon to be launched Hyundai Creta.Though the competitors are also cross overs, they are made to look live SUV's with their muscular styling and height. But in the case of S-Cross it does not have the SUV look.It looks like a typical crossover. This makes it challenging for Maruti because people are more interested in muscular looking  cars. The car is 4300mm in length, 1765mm in width and height is 1590mm.Ground clearance is 180mm.

Engine options:
S-Cross will get two Diesel engine options. The 1.3 liter engine that is used in Ciaz,Ertiga,Swift and Swift Dzire and a much powerfull 1.6 liter multijet Diesel that will be introduced in India for the first time in the S-Cross.The very familiar 1.3 diesel produces 89 bhp while the new 1.6 diesel engine produces 118bhp and 320NM of torque.

Interior:
While Exterior is not a very strong point for the S-Cross ,it makes up for it in the interior. It gets a full black interior that looks clean and sporty.Interior has the best fit and finish and plastic quality is the best we have ever seen  in a maruti.Only thing that looks bit disappointing are the switch gears that they have carried over from lower segment models.Seats are good and supportive,3 can easily fit into the rear seat and the rear seat passengers gets a lots of leg room.Rear seat can split 60:40 and can be folded almost flat. There are a lots of practical storage spaces inside the car.

First Drive:
The new 1.6 multijet diesel engine that produces 118bhp is a powerfull engine. But there is a bit of turbo lag and feels sluggish under 1800 rpm .The engine is refined though not as much as the hyundai's diesel engine.Once the car goes past the 1800rpm lot of power is delivered,It comes with a six speed gear box and it is the best for cruising in highway. The ride quality is good and takes the bumps on our roads decently.

Verdict:
It may not be the best looking car in the segment and does not give the road presence of the others in the segment. But what you get from the S-Cross is a well equiped, spacious car with high quality interior , a strong engine.
